Phayonkar (Baronka) Islands
The prettiest beach, backed by swaying
palms and casuarinas. The beach
stretches some 3 km and is the best
place for those who love the sea, sun
and sand or swimming or carefree
loitering on the beach. Fishing villages
near by are also very interesting and
beautiful sunset view makes one
unforgettable. Located on the Rakhine
Coast near Thandwe, 35 minutes flight
from Yangon.
The newest cool spot situated on the
western seaboard of the country, facing
the Bay of Bengal. Sea, Sand, Sun and
Scene at Ngwe Saung are the breath
taking beauties. It is about 48 km from
Pathein.
Ever wondered what the view is like? It
is a beach for those who love basking in
the sun, diving or swimming. It is a
very convenient drive from Yangon via
Pathein taking about 5 hours.
Located 290 km from Yangon near Gwa on
the Rakkhine Coast, accessible by an 8
hrs drive from Yangon over forested
mountain road. Kantharya is ideal for
bird watching as there are many kinds of
tropical birds. Kantharyar is indeed a
pleasant beach resort to enjoy lovely
scenery.
The Phayonkar Islands can be reached in
just five or six hours by motor boat
from Sittwe, a direct flight from
Yangon. Of the three islands, East
Phayonkar Island is the most romantic,
most beautiful and most interesting. It
is romantic because it has a long wide
strip of carpet like sandy beach, a cool
breeze and pleasant green vegetation. It
is interesting because it is home to a
peculiar collection of oil wells, the
likes of which you will not find
anywhere else in the world.
Dug by British soldiers stationed on
the Island during World War II. There
are about 30 of these strange hand made
wells. A 5D4N trip of Yangon - Sittwe -
Mrauk U - Phayonkar Islands will
probably feel you romantic and
adventure.
